CEC Hong Kong Wins the HATS Project Bid

After two years of business development in Hong Kong, CEC Hong Kong Branch won the contract for the construction of an effluent tunnel and disinfection facilities. This contract is part of the Harbor Area Treatment Scheme Stage 2A (HATS 2A) Stonecutters Island Sewage Treatment Works which Hong Kong’s Drainage Services Department is in charge of. CEC partnered with Chun Wo (the renowned construction group in Hong Kong) as Joint Venture to win the award.

Kobus Niehaus, CEC International Business Division’s Commercial Director, said the most significant part of winning the project was that the company had finally broken into the Hong Kong market. In his view, this breakthrough gave CEC the opportunity to build a proper organization, upgrade its licenses, establish itself formally and build a sustainable long-term business in Hong Kong.

CHUN WO-CEC JOINT VENTURE and the Drainage Services Department (DSD) of Hong Kong held the contract-signing ceremony on August 11 to announce the award of a HK$680 million (US$87 million) contract. “It comprises mainly the construction of an 880 m long effluent tunnel with an internal diameter of 8.5 m and disinfection facilities at Stonecutters Island, and is scheduled for completion in early 2015,” said the Director of Drainage Services, Mr. Chan Chi-Chiu.

CEC 80th Anniversary

CEC 80th Logo

CEC was founded in 1945, a challenging time full of uncertainty. Through eight decades of change, CEC has navigated the challenges of each era, always seeking opportunities to break through and progress further. As we enter this next chapter, we return to our founding aspiration – to remember why we began, and to know how we shall move forward. To embody this aspiration, we deliberately made our corporate identity understated. It serves as a reminder that our legacy is not about resting on past success, but about continuing to create value for our clients and societies and moving forward.

Our founding aspiration— roots us in times of change, nurtures our values and sustains our growth, lights the path ahead and fuels the will to move forward.
