Bitan Bridge and Xindian Tunnel
Technological excellence rewarded
CEC built Taiwan’s first prestressed arch bridge, the 800 meter Bitan Bridge on National Highway No. 3 (also known as Formosa Freeway). The project included the Xindian Tunnel in the north, Bitan Bridge crossing the Xindian River, and an off-ramp connection to the Ankeng Interchange.
The main body of Bitan Bridge is a concrete arch structure with a 3-dimensional curvature design. The bridge employs the Steel Caisson Cofferdam method for the deep excavation of the foundation in the Xindian River, for which CEC was recognized with the Construction Technology Automation Award. Bitan Bridge has become a landmark as well as a symbol of technological excellence in infrastructure construction.
