Nangang Depot Public Housing
Paradigm of the Green Circular Economy
The Nangang Depot Public Housing Project is not only Taiwan’s largest single-site public housing project but also the Taipei City Government’s first circular economy public housing demonstration project. CEC overcame the challenge of creating the material passports for building materials by using BIM technology.
BIM technology allows CEC to embed information within components and further employ COBie (Construction Operations Building Information Exchange). This ensures material traceability as well as facilitates information sharing and communication throughout the material lifecycle and the life of the building. By compiling more information about building materials, we enhance our capacity for recycling, which aligns with ESG standards. Nangang Depot Public Housing Project is proof of CEC’s commitment to sustainable development, becoming Taiwan’s first recipient of internationally recognized circular economy accreditation (BS 8001:2017).
At early design phase, CEC used cloud platform technology (BIM Cloud) to work with architects for confirming the space configuration, greatly improving building design efficiency. Over 30 rooms with panoramic models were constructed for this project.
For the home segment, we used BIM combined with VR technology to enable residents to select color and decorative items in a virtual environment. Customers were able to view the finished product in an intuitive, interactive manner, which significantly reduced potential material waste, back-and-forth communication, and rework.
This project embodies a broad range of practical BIM applications, from producing 2D drawings from 3D models, room design optimization, MEP pipeline review, ICT interface coordination, VR color selection, to beam opening examination.
