Treasure Garden
Italian master’s sleek statement building in central Taiwan
Facing tree-lined Summer Green Park Road in Taichung’s 7th District, Treasure Garden is a 39-story, high-rise residential tower completed by CEC and designed by the famous Milan-based studio Antonio Citterio Patricia Viel. The iconic project showcases CEC’s ability to turn world-class architectural designs into reality, with the completed building now considered a landmark in the city’s most prestigious district.
Inspired by 1930s Italian geometric patterns, the structure was conceived as a series of light, thin blades that serve the basis for everything from residential areas and public spaces to terraces and landscaping. Modular, diamond-pattern motifs recur across the façade and the interior of public areas. The high level of detail and varying angles in the façade’s design required the building’s construction to be executed at an extremely high level.
Since earthquakes occur relatively frequently in Taiwan, the building has been designed and constructed to the highest standards to meet seismic and severe wind resistance requirements. Built into the structure are 252 pairs of stub-column dampers and 72 pairs of steel bracing members to provide earthquake resistance, while 45 pairs of oil dampers and a tuned mass damper (TMD) offer anti-sway protection. The TMD – a 150-ton, steel sphere attached to the top of the structure – reduces the amplitude of vibrations caused by outside forces, enabling the skyscraper’s residents to live and work in comfort.
